"Now we can take over the rest of the kingdoms in the Crystalverse and make them part of our Negaverse." No part of the beautiful Crystalverse would be safe. Every kingdom in the Crystalverse would be taken over and soon it would be turned into the Negaverse. Berilla, Beryl's home kingdom had been the first to go and was now the Dark Kingdom. Queen Berina, the former queen of Berilla, was now just another of Queen Beryl's minions. The three young princes Beryl had just captured, Malachite, Neflite and Jedite, were going to aid Beryl in her conquest of the Crystalverse and then the Moon. "I suggest that you inform the princes of their new duties. We must not waste any time training your armies, Beryl." "Of course, my master," replied Queen Beryl. Princess Zoisite was getting very nervous all alone outside the palace and not knowing whether or not her parents and Prince Malachite were safe. Zoisite saw the dark clouds finally recede and hoped that everything was all right. She wanted to run to the palace, but Malachite had wanted her to wait for him to return. Minutes went by and there was no sign of Malachite coming back. The suspense was making Zoisite very uneasy. What if she had been forgotten about? No, Prince Malachite would not forget about her. Something must have happened... "I need help," said Malachite's mother, looking down at her husband's still body with tears in her eyes as she tried to heal Malachon with her powers. "I can't do this on my own." Queen Serenity got down on the floor on the other side of Malachon and signaled all of the sailor scouts to join her. Joining hands they formed a circle around the unconscious form of the sorcerer and the glow of their energies made a rainbow of colors. Slowly, their positive energy penetrated Malachon and he was able to open his eyes. "Are you all right, my darling," asked Celica, smoothing her hand over his long pale hair. "Yes, I think so," he replied. "Thank goodness. I couldn't bear to lose you," she said. "What happened to that witch?" asked Malachon, looking around and seeing only the sailor scouts, his wife and some guests. "She is gone," said Queen Serenity. "But she said that she would return." "And...she has taken our Malachite," said Celica sadly. "What!" exclaimed Malachon, rising too quickly and groaning with the effort. "Easy now," said Queen Serenity. "There must be a way for you to get your son Malachite back. I believe that woman was Beryl, a former princess of the kingdom of Berilla." "You know her?" asked Malachon. "I knew her as the Princess Beryl, daughter of Queen Berina of Berillia Kingdom. Their kingdom is part of the Crystalverse, where you live also." said Serenity. "Zoisite," a lady was calling. "Has anyone seen my daughter, Zoisite?" "I believe she was with my son," said Malachite's mother. "He came running in here from outside, so that's where Zoisite may be." "Outside? Alone? Oh!" Queen Zoey grew more worried. "I will help you look for your daughter," offered Celica. "It will help me to get my mind off my son." Zoey did not quite understand that remark. "Oh, is he that handsome young man with the white hair?" she asked as they walked outside. "I saw him with Zoisite, but where is your son now?" "Malachite has been captured," replied Celica. "By the witch who wounded my husband." "How terrible!" Zoey knew she couldn't bear it if her daughter was ever taken from her, so she felt great sympathy for Malachite's mother. "Malachite is my only child," said Celica sadly. "Zoisite is my only child. I couldn't stand it if she was taken away from me," said Zoey. "Do not worry, Queen Zoey, we will find Zoisite." The two ladies called out Zoisite's name as they looked for her all around the palace grounds. "I just can't stand to wait here any longer!" thought Zoisite. "I have to know if my parents and Malachite are all right!" Zoisite decided to go to the palace when she heard a familiar voice. "Mother?" thought Zoisite. "I'm here Mother!" Zoisite began to run forward to Zoey. "Oh, there she is!" cried Queen Zoey happily. "My sweetheart." She met her daughter halfway and hugged her. "What were you doing out here?" "Prince Malachite and I went for a walk together. Malachite left when we saw the dark clouds and he told me to stay here. He said that he would come back but he hasn't. Mother what happened?" "Well...it seems that Prince Malachite was captured by some evil woman who brought those dark clouds," said Zoey as they walked back to where Malachite's mother was. "What!" exclaimed Zoisite. "Oh, no!" Zoisite was horrified. "No, he can't be captured! Mother...I think I love him!" she cried. "This lady is Malachite's mother," pointed out Zoey when they were close enough to Celica. "I believe that Zoisite is just as upset as you are about the disappearance of Malachite." Zoisite couldn't help the tears that escaped her verdant eyes and flowed down her cheeks. "Don't cry, honey," said Celica, holding Princess Zoisite in her arms. "My son would not want you to cry." Zoisite cried her heart out. This had been a very emotional day for her. The guests returned home as they had come, shaken from the mysterious happening at the ball. Zoisite and her parents went home to their kingdom of Zoisica and Zoisite was so upset that she could not find any peace or happiness. She did not want to play with her kitten or do any of her favorite activities. All Zoisite could think about was her lost love. She stayed in her room for hours. Zoey sat with her on her roomy bed, covered with a soft spread of pink and green. "He was so wonderful, Mother. He was like a fairy tale prince...a dream come true..." A tear spilled over her eyelashes. Zoey wiped away the tear gently. "I saw you with a very handsome man who had long white hair and a cape..." "That was he," said Zoisite, sniffing. "And he was so kind to me...he waltzed with me and brought me food...and he talked to me and he gave me this flower." Zoisite showed the pink rose to her mother. It had remained fresh and pretty, since it was a magic rose. "See?" Zoey petted Zoisite's soft hair. "It's beautiful honey. He must think you are very special." "I never felt so happy, Mother. Do you think I will ever see him again? I just have to!" Zoisite exclaimed. "I hope that you do sweetheart," replied Zoey. "I wish that you two will find each other again." She drew Zoisite close in a motherly embrace. "Is Zoisite all right?" asked her father when Zoey came out the door to Zoisite's bedroom. "She is very sad about what happened to Prince Malachite. Do you think he can be rescued from Beryl?" Zoey asked her husband. "Let's hope so, for Zoisite's sake." When Malachite opened his eyes again, it was to see a dark cave. He was lying on some type of strange bed and couldn't for the life of him remember how he came to be there. "Ah, I see that you have awakened," said a tall woman with long hair, red as blood. She looked familiar to Malachite. He knew that he had seen her before... "Who are you?" demanded Malachite, sitting up. "I am your queen. You will address me as is proper." "What am I doing here?" asked Malachite, since he had no idea and this woman seemed to be the authority. "You, Malachite, are one of my warriors. And you have the honor of being one of my commanders. Since you are the strongest, you have been chosen to be the Arch General, the leader of my army." "Malachite..." yes, that sounded right, he thought. "There is a whole army in need of your command," continued Queen Beryl. "I expect you to learn your job and do it well if you wish to continue being in the service of my kingdom." She smiled evilly. "What is this place?" asked Malachite as he got up off the hard bed. Queen Beryl walked towards the opening of the cavelike place and indicated that Malachite was to follow her. She led him through several chambers, all cavelike, until they reached her audience chamber, which was currently occupied by some of her minions, waiting patiently for her to address them. "This, Malachite, is my Dark Kingdom, part of what will be the Negaverse when we finish taking over the Crystalverse. This is also your home. You have a castle of your own which you will be taken to so you can change out of those clothes and into your proper uniform." "Forgive me, your majesty, I seem to remember you, but I cannot recall being here in this place before. What happened?" "You were kidnapped and brainwashed by our enemies. They held you in their kingdom until I found you and rescued you, as well as two others who were also taken by these enemies. I promise you, Malachite, the first thing we will do is get revenge on them." Beryl smiled wickedly at the story she made up to tell Malachite. She would make him believe that the people in the Crystalverse kingdoms were their enemies, and he would want to conquer them as badly as she did. "I would like revenge on whoever caused me to lose my memories," Malachite replied. "And you shall have it," Beryl promised him. A servant showed Malachite to his castle, dark and looming with tall pointed spires. Inside Malachite found luxurious furnishings and decor, all of dark blue and purple hues. He looked around the rooms - there was a conservatory with all kinds of Negaverse plants, a living room, a dining room, a weapons room and a study with a bookcase full of books. This he found most to his liking. There were also several bedrooms with connecting bathrooms of marble and stone. Malachite assumed the large master bedchamber was his. In the spacious wardrobe, he found the uniform Queen Beryl had mentioned - a dark grey belted jacket trimmed and lined in light blue fabric, with an ornament at each shoulder, dark grey pants, low black boots to go under them. To finish it off, there was a beautiful white cape with a dark blue lining, which had slits that were placed over the metal decorations on his jacket shoulders. Malachite removed his prince's garments and put on the uniform, leaving the jacket unfastened at the top so that the flap stayed open to reveal a glimpse of his smooth, tanned chest. He looked very stunning wearing the uniform. Malachite admired his reflection briefly in the tall mirror and them went to find Queen Beryl. "How do you find your living quarters, Malachite?" asked Queen Beryl when he had returned to her. "Quite satisfactory," he replied. "Good. Should you require anything to aid you, let me know. Now that you are properly attired you can be familiarized with your duties as my leader general." Malachite nodded for her to continue. "I expect you to be the leader of my army with authority over everyone," Queen Beryl began, "except me of course." She smiled. "I am your supreme ruler." Malachite could not help feeling a slight dislike for the woman. He was still a bit uncertain and uneasy about his memories. But he held a very high position here, which seemed right to him. He just had to make this queen happy. Queen Beryl went on about her plans and everything that Malachite was expected to accomplish for her. She made a great fuss over the fact that the Crystalverse kingdoms were their enemies, and so was the Moon Kingdom. Malachite listened carefully to everything she said, trying to let it all sink in to his confused mind. "Now you can meet your fellow generals," said Beryl. She summoned Jedite and Neflite, each of whom had also been told a story similar to what Malachite had been told. "We are missing one of you," said Queen Beryl when she had the attention of all three men. "The fourth one is still in the presence of our enemies. But we will get her back...as soon as we discover where she is..." "Pardon me, your majesty, but did I hear you correctly?" asked Malachite. "Did you say 'she'? Is the fourth general a lady?" "Yes." said Queen Beryl. "Her name is Zoisite." Malachite knew that he had heard that name before. It was like a sweet haunting melody, her name...'Zoisite'. If only Malachite could remember... Princess Zoisite sat at the elegant dining table with her parents and also Malachite's. Malachon and Celica had been invited to dinner at Queen Zoey and King Galen's castle. They were discussing the disappearance of Prince Malachite, a topic that made poor Zoisite feel more and more depressed. She was in a very sad mood this evening. She hoped that Malachite would return to her, because now she knew she could not live without him. "...could open a gateway there...if I could feel the energy again..." Zoisite perked up, catching that bit of conversation, coming from Malachon. "You could?" Zoisite asked. "Open a gateway to find Malachite?" A spark of hope lit itself inside her. "Yes, my dear princess," said Malachon, turning to Zoisite, whom he found to be very lovely. "But I must know where he is...If that Beryl shows up again, as Serenity says she will, I would need to get a sense of that portal she came from. Then I could channel a pathway to her domain." he explained. "She did tell us that she would come back," said Celica. "And when she does, I will be ready for her," said Malachon. "No one will take our son away from us. Or you, my dear," he added with a glance at Zoisite. "May I be excused?" asked Zoisite. "Yes, dear," answered Queen Zoey. Zoisite got up from the table and left the dining hall. She went up the carpeted stairs to her room and picked up the rose laying on her dresser. She closed her eyes and wished... A knock interrupted her thoughts. "Who's there?' asked Zoisite, expecting one of the maids. "Malachite's mother. May I come in?" "Yes," said Zoisite. "I thought you might like some company up here," said the kind woman. "What a pretty rose you have there," said Celica, noticing the pink flower in Zoisite's hands. "Malachite gave it to me," said Zoisite. "He is in love with you, Zoisite." "He is? I mean, you think so?" asked Zoisite. "Yes, I believe he is. You see, he has never really been interested in any of the princesses, until he saw you. You are the only woman he has ever given anything to, with the exception of his mother." She smiled. "Tell me more about him," said Zoisite. Celica told Zoisite all about her son, cheering her up with stories about his childhood and life in their kingdom. When Malachite's parents left, Zoisite prayed that somehow, she would be reunited with the man who had won her heart.
