She had really slept soundly. She stretched and her stomach growled softly, reminding her that she hadn't eaten in a while. Zoisite noticed the tray of food from the previous night that lay untouched on the floor. She picked it up an nibbled at it. "Ew!" she thought. She much preferred fresh food. And her favorite was the cherry strudel she had enjoyed as a princess, although Zoisite didn't recall that at the moment. Zoisite sighed. She hoped that Malachite would have something decent for her to eat. She hoped that eventually she would find her place in this strange Negaverse. She still felt uncomfortable. Who was this red - haired queen and this Malachite whom she was supposed to obey? Who was she? Was she really a warrior for this Negaverse? Zoisite wondered what she would be expected to do today. That magical stuff had really wiped her out last night, but it was very thrilling as well. To think that she had the power to create like that! Having power made her feel more secure. Zoisite wondered if she could do it on her own. Malachite said to concentrate, she thought. Zoisite decided to try for another crystal. She closed her eyes and thought of a long sharp crystalline form. Slowly, slowly, she could feel the power gathering into her hand, and a soft light glowed around her... Suddenly the bedroom door opened, breaking her concentration. Zoisite snapped her head up and the glowing light in her hand dissipated. "Zoisite. Trying another crystal?" asked Malachite. He was fully dressed in his Negaverse uniform, and perfectly groomed. Zoisite felt a little silly sitting there in her pyjamas, but hey, Malachite had just barged in without knocking! "Yes," Zoisite replied. "You spoiled it," she added, a little sulkily. Malachite smiled slyly. "Well, young lady, you shouldn't try that on your own yet." Zoisite frowned slightly. "Why not?" She could do it. "Because," answered Malachite coolly, "You have much to learn and you need a master to show you the way." And because I want to show you as much as possible, thought Malachite. "Well, well, isn't he Mister Arrogant?" thought Zoisite. She had just been trying to practice! "You also won't be sleeping so late, Zoisite. You should have been up and dressed already. It is almost noon." Malachite scolded gently, although he had let Zoisite sleep late because he knew that she would be tired from her exertion last night. But Malachite couldn't show too much softness to Zoisite, or she'd never obey. "You didn't wake me up," thought Zoisite indignantly. It wasn't her fault! "I assume you are well rested since you feel you can attempt more spells." Malachite looked down at her, waiting for an answer. "I am," replied Zoisite matter - of - factly. "Good," said Malachite. "We have much to do today, and it is late. Dress yourself in your uniform and then come down to my dining hall. I will expect you in twenty minutes, understand?" "Yes," said Zoisite, clutching her bedsheet tightly in her fingers. Was she allowed to tell her mentor a thing or two? ***************************************** Queen Zoey wrung her pale slender hands nervously. Her usually sparkling green eyes were dark and glassy from tears. Where was her daughter? Zoisite had not come back from riding yesterday. Lady Lyra had returned to Castle Zoisica without her mistress. The king had ridden out with a search party to look for the missing Princess Zoisite, but so far, no one had found her. "First Prince Malachite disappears, now my little Princess Zoisite," thought Zoey. "Oh, I hope that Beryl hasn't taken her!" The idea terrified Zoey. Who knew what would befall Zoisite at the hands of such a cruel woman? Where was the princess now? Was she lost... hurt...frightened? The wind whispered through the cherry trees and blew the pink petals from them. A small kitten mewed at Zoey's feet. They seemed to be crying for their lost princess. Zoey picked up her daughter's kitty. "I know," she said. "You miss Zoisite." She petted the kitty and waited for some news of Zoisite. **************************************** Zoisite hurried down to the dining hall, now groomed prettily and fully dressed in her Negaverse uniform, with its pale blue trim, just like on the uniform of Lord Malachite. Zoisite was hungry, after all that had happened to her. Zoisite hoped that there would be good food for her to eat. She entered the spacious room and found Malachite sitting at the head of a large stone table. A large crystal chandelier hung high above from the arched ceiling. The room was a mixture of dark blue, purple and gray hues. "Zoisite," said Malachite. "Sit down." He indicated an interestingly carved chair next to his. Zoisite took her place at the table and surveyed the food. It looked rather appetizing. She reached for a croissant. Malachite commanded a servant to pour them each a drink. She had an unusual flowing costume and a china - like mask covering her face. "Yasha, this is Miss Zoisite. She will be staying here in my castle for quite a long time, as she is my new pupil." The servant nodded her head at Zoisite. "Yes, I saw her last night, sir." "If I am ever not here with her you will attend to the needs of Miss Zoisite and get her whatever she requires," continued Malachite. "Within reason, of course." "Of course, my lord," answered Yasha. Zoisite stared at Malachite. The Lord warrior had such a commanding air about him. You'd think that he was a prince... Malachite dismissed Yasha and took a sip of his tea. "Now then, Zoisite," he began, "about your training." Zoisite listened and continued to eat her food. She was curious about what she would have to do. "You will need to enhance your magical skills, of course, so I will be helping you to do that. I am an expert in dark magic." Zoisite had figured that much herself. Malachite continued, "You will need to learn how to fight..." Zoisite had guessed that she would. Warriors did fight didn't they? But self defense would be useful to her. "There is also the matter of reconquering the rebellious Crystalverse kingdoms. Our next target is Zoisica." "Zoisica?" repeated Zoisite, pausing in her eating. That sounded familiar to her... "Yes," answered Malachite, keeping his eyes on Zoisite. "The place where I found you." "What is that place that sounds so familiar...and why was I there?" asked Zoisite. Malachite frowned a little. He wasn't entirely sure. Malachite was not even sure about his own past, which he could not fully remember. Just why had this girl been in the kingdom of Zoisica? When he had first seen Zoisite, she did not look like a warrior at all...she looked so soft and gentle - like a princess. Was she really a princess? Malachite wondered. Was everything Queen Beryl said about her true? "I just don't seem to feel sure about all this," continued Zoisite, since Malachite was not answering her. Malachite did not feel entirely sure, either, but for now, he could not disobey his queen. He must do as she wished and make this girl Zoisite a Negaverse warrior, princess or not. "Do you doubt your queen's word?" he asked Zoisite. "Well, no, I guess not...I suppose it's just because my memory is so vague..." "Just obey your queen and obey me and you will be fine, Zoisite," replied Malachite. But he felt bad inside. He could see that Zoisite was feeling a little out of place and uncertain in her surroundings. But he would not let anything bad happen to her. Malachite had decided that he wanted her to trust and look up to him...he just wasn't exactly sure how that would happen. Malachite had never been the most warm and open person. Malachite cleared his throat. "Anyway, as I was saying," he continued, "The kingdom of Zoisica is our next target." "Why?" asked Zoisite. "Why are we conquering these places?" "Because they must be placed under the rule of Queen Beryl, the rightful monarch," said Malachite. "The kingdom of Zoisica is a rebellious threat to her." "Oh," said Zoisite, although she did not quite understand. "As you know, Zoisite, I am the leader of the Negaverse army, so it is my duty to command the warriors. We are planning an attack on Zoisica tomorrow morning and I must be there." "And what will I do?" asked Zoisite, her green eyes looking at Malachite questioningly. "I do not know whether the queen wishes you to accompany us or not," replied Malachite. "I must find out. You are a warrior, chosen to be one of the leaders in fact, a general, but you are not ready for the job yet." "Who else is a Negaverse warrior general?" asked Zoisite. "There are two young men named Jedite and Neflite, and myself of course. I am the strongest, so I am the leader." As if I could forget that, thought Zoisite. To Malachite she said, "I am the only girl general?" Malachite smiled. "Yes, my dear, you are the only girl general, though not the only girl warrior. There are other girls who serve Queen Beryl as undercover spies and assassins, and a few serve in the actual army. But you alone are a female warrior general. In training, of course." Malachite laughed a little. "You see, you wear my colors on your uniform." "Yeah, even on my underwear," Zoisite thought dryly. "So, how long do I have to wear your colors?" she asked. Malachite raised an eyebrow. "Until you are a full - fledged warrior general. Then you will receive a uniform in your own color, green I would guess." "Oh?" said Zoisite. How did he know my favorite color? she wondered. "It would match your eyes," said Malachite thoughtfully. He thought that green was a very good color for this young lady. Zoisite thought about that for a moment. Malachite coughed. They had work to do, he shouldn't be chatting with Zoisite. "Er, well, we have been sitting here long enough. If you're finished, we have things to attend to." He rose from his chair. "Yes," replied Zoisite. She took a final sip of her drink and stood up. Malachite led her to his study/library, and began searching for a book among the many volumes on the shelves. Zoisite looked around her. Curious place. There were lots of books of course, and also various crystals and magical idols. "What will we do?" she asked. "Since you are eager to learn conjuring spells, we will practice that for awhile," Malachite answered her. He found the book he wanted and indicated that Zoisite should sit. Zoisite seated herself in one of the high backed dark blue velour chairs. "Now then, Zoisite," began Malachite, "I want you to study this book in your spare time, such as right before you go to sleep. It's important to study every day, and I find that studying before you sleep is very valuable." Malachite held the book out to Zoisite. Zoisite took it and examined it curiously. "Crystal Power" was the title, embossed in elegantly scrawled silver letters on a dark blue binding. Zoisite opened it and looked through its pages, filled with spells, information and illustrations. "You may examine it later," said Malachite. "Its purpose is to serve you when I am not around to do so." Zoisite placed the book next to her on a stone table. Malachite smiled at her wryly, as he did when he was about to say one of his sly remarks. He has such a distracting smile, thought Zoisite to herself. "I would like to see another one of those crystal daggers of yours, Zoisite." Although it was phrased as a request, it was a command. For an answer, Zoisite closed her eyes and began to concentrate. Malachite watched as a light began to form in her hand. She looked so beautiful, sitting there like a...a princess, he thought. Malachite was ready to assist her, but Zoisite did not look as if she needed much assisting. A crystal began to take shape in the copper haired woman's hand. Zoisite was a fast learner. And since she had controlled magic powers all her life, this conjuring was not too hard for her. Zoisite had only forgotten that she had them, but they were there inside her and they always would be. And Zoisite had a strong determination to achieve this. Her hand felt solid form and she grasped the icicle like crystal proudly. "Not bad, Zoisite. You will need to do it faster, but I believe that will come to you with practice. Like I said, you have sorceress's blood," Malachite told her. "Yes, I think it must be true," said Zoisite, admiring her crystal. "I can feel it now that you have showed me." If Zoisite had been looking at Malachite instead of her crystal, she would have seen Malachite smiling warmly at her. "Malachite! Report to me!" A voice sounded itself in the mind of the sorcerer, causing his smile to dissipate. "I must go to see the queen," said Malachite. "I will return shortly." "Oh?" Zoisite looked up from her crystal. "Study your book," said Malachite and disappeared in a streak of blue light, his trademark. Zoisite stared at the spot where the light streak glowed and then vanished. There was something about Malachite...something she just couldn't ignore... *********************************** Malachite bowed before Queen Beryl. The two other male warrior generals, Neflite and Jedite were also present. "Tomorrow we will attack Zoisica," said the queen. "Malachite you are the lead commander, of course, and will preside over most of the army." "What of my pupil, Zoisite?" asked the white haired mage. "The girl will remain here. Zoisite is not trained well enough to accompany us. But I have a place for her, so that she does not miss out on instruction while you are gone. Zoisite will spend the day at the Negaverse Academy. She can train with the other girls." "Very well, I shall tell her," said Malachite. He wondered how Zoisite would find the Negaverse academy. Malachite himself was a part time instructor there, and it was not all fun and games, he knew that. Zoisite was such a pretty girl too, the others could be jealous of her and her new position. Malachite didn't hear what Beryl said next because he was too busy thinking about Zoisite. He sighed. He shouldn't worry about her so much. But he couldn't help it. There was something about Zoisite... Submit ReviewReport Possible AbuseAdd Story to FavoritesAdd Author to FavoritesAdd Author to Author AlertAdd Story to C2 Archive 1. Default Chapter2.
