She had just lost the kingdom of Zoisica, thanks to a foolish woman that looked just like Zoisite. "Why did we need this silly girl?" Beryl growled to herself. The Negaforce had insisted that Beryl select Zoisite as a warrior. Queen Beryl knew better than to defy the powerful being that had granted Beryl her own power. But it had picked a weak, delicate girl when Beryl believed she could have chosen a much better candidate for fourth general. One that didn't have a loving mother to screw up her plans. Beryl scowled. Love was such a waste of energy. She had forbidden love in her Negaverse. Beryl did not want any of that emotion here, in herself or any of her subjects. Love was for fools. She just wanted to have complete power and feel the ecstasy of control and domination. One day, after all the kingdoms in the Crystalverse were brought under her control, she would return to the Moon Kingdom and make Queen Serenity, Princess Serena and Prince Darien submit to her. They would pay for defying her. And Darien would rule at her side. She would triumph over him. One day. This day, however, the latest battle in Zoisica had been fruitless for the Negaverse. Finding his beloved queen dead, Zoisite's father had sworn that Beryl would never have Zoisica. He destroyed most of the castle and the surrounding kingdom with a powerful spell. The inhabitants fled for their lives leaving only the crumbling ruins behind. The only satisfaction that Beryl got was in killing the king with a dark energy blast. Even that wasn't purely Beryl's doing, since the spell he had used drained much of his life force, anyway. The loss of his queen had not helped him either. But it was just as well, since he would not have been happy living without Zoey or Zoisite. Beryl wondered why Queen Zoey ran to Malachite. "Could it be that her precious princess Zoisite was betrothed to him," Beryl thought, feeling nauseous at the thought of Malachite and Zoisite in a royal wedding. A flash of blue light signaled the arrival of her handsome white haired general. Malachite bowed respectfully before his queen. "Your Majesty, I have something I wish to discuss with you," said Malachite, rising and fixing his silvery blue eyes on Beryl. "And what is that?" asked Beryl, having a feeling that it concerned Zoisite and her princesshood. "I have discovered that Zoisite is the princess of what was formerly Zoisica," said Malachite. "She is certainly no warrior. I wish to know why she has been kidnapped and made to serve us in this way." This was very daring of him to confront the queen, Malachite knew, but he had to stop the injustice being forced upon the princess Zoisite. He had to admit to himself, he liked the copper haired girl too much to let her life be disrupted any further. Malachite is very clever and dares much to question me, thought Beryl, frowning a little. Malachite certainly could be a threat to her rule if she did not do something. Beryl smiled evilly. "So you have figured out her true identity, Malachite. But you will not be telling Zoisite or doing anything except making her into the warrior I need. The Negaforce has convinced me that Zoisite is essential to my army." "But, majesty, Zoisite is just a young girl. She has been raised as royalty and she is much too delicate to perform this job for you. I ask that she be released from this assignment," Malachite protested. "You cannot go against the will of the Negaforce, Malachite," replied Beryl. "And you cannot interfere with my plans. Perhaps some time in the mind control chamber will benefit you." "What?" asked Malachite. Mind control? Did Beryl seriously wish to hypnotize him? Had she done that to the others? "Yes, Malachite it will rid you of all these troubling thoughts you have, so that you can concentrate on serving the Negaverse." Malachite had a terrible realization. "Was this used on Princess Zoisite?" he demanded, using the young girl's true title. "Have you erased her memories of the royal family of Zoisica?" "Smart boy, you figured it out," taunted Beryl with a sneer at Malachite. "But you will not be telling anyone. You will soon forget..." "No," said Malachite. "I will not allow this injustice ..." Blue light glowed from his body as he began to cast a spell. Queen Beryl blasted an energy ball at Malachite, knocking him unconscious. ******************* Zoisite wrapped her dark green robe around herself and pushed on the stone that opened the wall of the secret chamber. She felt much better after using Malachite's special bath. Zoisite summoned Yasha telekinetically, as Malachite had taught her to do. Zoisite had been practicing her powers and slowly they were coming back to her. Each time she tried a summoning, it was easier. She was fascinated by what she could do. In a few moments, Yasha appeared before Zoisite, just as she had commanded. "My lady," Yasha bowed before Zoisite. "I wish for some clothes to change into," said Zoisite. "Your green pants and black blouse?" asked Yasha, who by training and orders from Malachite, knew everything that Zoisite possessed. Zoisite sighed. What else? "Yes," she replied. Besides her Negaverse training uniform, she had her pyjamas, robe and only one "non -warrior" outfit - a pair of dark green pants and a satin black blouse with silver trim. She would have to ask Malachite for some more clothes. Apparently, when her Negaverse uniform and accessories were prepared, the queen had not thought that casual garments were very necessary. It would be nice to have some extra outfits, thought Zoisite. Maybe even a dress or two... Yasha left to get the clothes for her mistress. Zoisite walked behind Malachite's dressing screen and examined her body. The bruises had all disappeared, just as Malachite said they would. Zoisite flung her robe over the top of the screen and waited for Yasha. Malachite won't mind if I dress in his room, she thought, because he's not here! Zoisite giggled to herself. She was daring, standing nude in her lord Malachite's chamber! Zoisite had a thought that it would be fun to share the chamber with Malachite. Where did that idea come from? Well, Malachite was very handsome, of course. Zoisite had to admit, Malachite was just like the prince she always dreamed of - pristine and godlike...almost too beautiful to be real. Whenever Zoisite looked at Malachite she nearly had to pinch herself. He was just too dreamy. Of course his personality wasn't exactly the dreamiest, but oh, well... Zoisite wondered if Malachite ever "thawed out" enough for romance. "My lady, your clothes," said Yasha, interrupting Zoisite's thoughts. Not seeing her mistress, she was confused. "Zoisite?" "Over here," Zoisite answered. Just leave them here for me. She patted the top of the folded screen. Yasha draped the pants, blouse, bra and panties for Zoisite over the screen. "Anything else, my lady?" she asked. "Yes, I would like some ginger tea and rice rolls brought to my bed chamber," said Zoisite. She could use some refreshments as well, now that she was clean and healed. "As you desire," said Yasha. Zoisite dressed herself, putting on her tall black uniform boots with her outfit. They were the only shoes she had, but she liked them. They were like the riding boots that she had worn with her dark green riding skirt and jacket. Zoisite had a pale memory of herself riding a horse in a cherry blossom orchard, and then it was gone again. She wondered at the vision as she slipped knee high black stockings over her pants and pulled the boots on over them. If she ever got a dress to wear, she would need some more elegant shoes. Zoisite had seen some of the Negaverse girl youma wearing colored high heel shoes that looked very elegant. She wished that maybe she could wear more feminine clothes once in a while. She liked her casual pants and blouse look, but her uniform hid her pretty figure. Zoisite sighed and returned to her bedchamber. Picking up a silver brush from on top of her chest of drawers, she walked over to the stand up mirror to brush out her long hair. She was startled by a tiny cry. Zoisite whirled around and saw a little kitten curled up on her bed. "Oh," she gasped and walked over to the bed. Carefully she picked up the tiny creature in her hands, lifting it to her face to look closely at it. The kitten purred and licked her cheek. She seemed to know Zoisite. Zoisite smiled a slow, thoughtful smile. "I see you have found your new kitten," said Yasha, entering the room with a tray of tea and rice rolls for Zoisite. "My kitten?" asked Zoisite. She didn't know what to say about this new surprise. "Lord Malachite brought her home for you, my lady," replied Yasha. "He found her in Zoisica and thought you might like her." Zoisite smiled. A present from Malachite, how unbelievable! Maybe Lord Malachite had a warm side to him after all... ********************* Malachite meanwhile, was undergoing brain washing in Queen Beryl's mind control chamber. Beryl was making sure that he would not remember what had happened with Princess Zoisite or Queen Zoey. Her dark energy was searching out his thoughts and trying to wipe out the ones of the princess and her mother. It was taking some time, since Malachite was a very educated and intelligent man, with much information stored in his mind. And Beryl did not want to accidentally erase anything important, such as his magical training or knowledge of his status as Negaverse commander, Academy teacher and mentor. "You are mine now Malachite, and you will do as I wish," said Beryl, half to herself as she supervised the proceedings. "No more of this Princess Zoisite nonsense. She is a warrior for you to train, not your fairy tale bride." Malachite moaned softly in his sleeplike trance. ************************* Zoisite giggled a very un-warrior like giggle as she played with kitty. The little creature was playfully attacking Zoisite's long copper hair, which was flowing loose down her back and over her shoulders. Having a pet made Zoisite feel the happiest that she had felt since she got here. The little kitty was so soft and cute - almost like a plush animal from a toy maker. Zoisite had owned many plush animals and dolls in Zoisica. As the princess, since her birth, she was always receiving gifts for her royal birthday or for no special occasion at all. A visiting dollmaker had once given Zoisite a Rapunzel doll as a present because he was enchanted by such a lovely princess as Zoisite. Zoisite liked her dolls, but she had really wanted a real live pet to play with. Her wish came true when Lady Unakite, a good friend of Queen Zoey, presented Zoisite with a little kitten. She was a special type of cat that was petite and didn't grow much more than kitten size. Zoisite had loved the kitten instantly, just as she loved this little kitten with her now. It was the very same one, although she did not know that. Zoisite knew that there was something familiar about her new pet - but she couldn't figure out what, exactly. All she knew was that she liked the kitty very much. ************************ Malachite awoke in the dark cave feeling a bit dazed and drained. It seemed like déjà vu. Malachite remembered waking up in a similar state when he was brought to Queen Beryl's kingdom a short time ago. He groaned. His head felt as though some force was pushing in on it. The last thing he remembered was Queen Beryl. There was something important he needed to do, but he did not know what. "You are awake, I see," said the dark voice of the queen. Malachite turned to face Beryl. "What happened?" he demanded. "Why am I here?" "You were injured in the battle, Malachite. You took a blow to your head. I feared for your well - being, so I brought you to my revival chamber to ease the shock on your mind." The lie flowed easily of Beryl's tongue. "My head aches terribly," said Malachite. "The aching will fade away soon. You had best return to your quarters now that you are awake. We have more strategies to plan, since today's battle did not go well." "We did not win the kingdom?" asked Malachite. "Much to my disappointment, no," said Beryl, pleased that Malachite did not seem to recall the incident with Queen Zoey. "Though you fought most impressively, they were most dirty fighters." Beryl scowled, remembering how she had been deprived of the kingdom. "We must try again," said Malachite. "No, the kingdom is destroyed from the battle. I have no interest in it now. We will go after Agea next and you will lead the army, of course." "Yes, m'queen." He suddenly remembered what he had wanted to talk about. "What of Zoisite? I feel I must..." He trailed off, losing his train of thought. "Go home, Malachite. And don't bother yourself with Zoisite. You must rest. I will see to her tonight. Send her to me." ************************ "My lord," said Yasha, bowing as Malachite entered the castle. "Where is Zoisite?" demanded Malachite. "I am ordered to send her to the queen." "In her chamber, lord Malachite." Malachite let himself into Zoisite's room. He found her curled up on the bed with the spellbook he had given to her, dressed in casual attire with her beautiful hair falling loose around the pillow. A picture of loveliness, she was. A little orange kitty peeked at him over the top of the book. "Hey, I can't see the page," giggled Zoisite, trying to pry kitty loose. She looked up and saw Malachite. "Oh, lord Malachite, you have returned," she said. "Er, how did your errand go?" she inquired, brushing a lock of hair off her face. Malachite frowned. He could not recall what Zoisite was talking about. "Never mind, Zoisite, it is not your concern," Malachite said sternly, to cover his confusion. "Now get up and put on your uniform. Queen Beryl wishes to see you." "Yes, Malachite," replied Zoisite. He sure changes moods on me, she thought. Before he was almost sweet to her and now he was back to the Ice King. She got up reluctantly and put the kitty down on the floor. I should get a basket for her to rest in, thought Zoisite. "Take this," said Malachite, holding out a green Zoisite wand. It will give you the power you need to teleport to the audience chamber and to return here. I must teach you to do it on your own, but for now you will have to use this crystal, as I am in need of rest." "It's made of Zoisite," said Zoisite, taking hold of the wand. It was quite beautiful with its swirling patterns. "Yes, it will work very well with your natural energy. Hold it close and focus on your destination. The wand will energize you and allow you to open a portal for a few seconds. You must then will yourself through. Understand?" "Yes," said Zoisite. "Good. I will be in my study," said Malachite. "Do not disturb me unless it is important. Yasha will attend to your needs." He looked at the little kitty playing with a green ribbon that had fallen to the floor. "And the needs of your pet." "Yes, Malachite," said Zoisite. "And thank you," she added, a bit hesitantly. Malachite arched a pale eyebrow. "For what?" he asked. "For my kitten," she said softly. "I like her very much." "Oh." Malachite cleared his throat, feeling slightly uncomfortable. "Well, you're welcome. Now get ready." He turned and left the room. Zoisite shook her head. Malachite was such a mystery to her. ********************* Queen Beryl waited for Zoisite to appear. According to Jirel's report, Zoisite had not been very successful at the Negaverse Academy. "So, she is a poor fighter. I figured as much. Well, we will fix that." Zoisite fastened the catch on her uniform jacket and tightened the band around her hair. "I'll see you later, kitty," she said, playfully blowing a kiss. She picked up the piece of Zoisite. "Okay wand, do your stuff." Zoisite held the wand tightly to her chest and filled it with her will. She felt a harmonious energy coming from the wand. It surrounded her and she felt the space changing around her, opening itself to allow her slender body to pass through. Zoisite disappeared, not fazing the kitty at all, since she had done that many times before as a princess / sorceress. Zoisite materialized in the dark audience chamber of Queen Beryl, still holding the Zoisite wand. "What is that?" demanded the queen, seeing the magical object in the young female warrior's hands. "It is a wand Lord Malachite gave to me to enhance my powers," replied Zoisite. "It helps me teleport, since I am unable to do it by myself yet." Queen Beryl sniffed. "Well, you had better learn, Zoisite. According to my report from the Academy, you have not been a very good student. I am displeased with this news." "I'm sorry, I-" "Don't interrupt, Zoisite! I expect you to improve your performance. If you ever expect to achieve rank as a general, you had better work hard. I do not tolerate laziness, idleness or failure." "Yes, my queen." Zoisite bowed her head. Queen Beryl did not seem to be in a good mood. "You will have another class at the Academy tomorrow, Zoisite. I wish to hear a better report, understand?" "Yes." "Good. Come with me." Beryl stood and made a motion with her hand. "Hm?" Did the queen wish to see her in private? "Come, girl!" "Yes, Queen Beryl," said Zoisite moving up the steps to the throne. Beryl took hold of her hand and they were engulfed in dark red energy. Zoisite gasped, awed by the power of Beryl's energy. A moment later, they were in Beryl's chamber. "You need to better understand our objectives," said Beryl. I will show you." Beryl took out a large map and spread it open before them. It contained charts images of all the planets and their kingdoms that made up the Crystalverse. They were one by one being converted so that they would form the Negaverse. Zoisite had seen a similar chart hanging in her palace at Zoisica, so she recognized what it was for. "Now then, all that you see here makes up the-" "Crystalverse," finished Zoisite automatically. Beryl gritted her teeth. "No longer will that name be used. These places must be brought under our control, as rightful rulers. It will be the Negaverse, as it is meant to be, with my authority as queen. These rebellious Crystalverse kingdoms must be brought to my rule. They will fight us, which is why I need a strong army and you will be a part of that army." Zoisite was confused. Either this woman was crazy, or she was truly a divine ruler. "Zoisite, I must bring this Crystalverse under my control. Only with my command can we achieve our mission. With the help of our Negaforce, we will rule the universe, staring by completing the creation of the Negaverse. This kingdom is the home kingdom of my rule. Every place we conquer will add to our domain. The other kingdoms have rebelled against me and must be put in their place." "So you are building an empire from these Crystalverse places, and this empire will be our Negaverse?" asked Zoisite, catching on. She wasn't stupid, possessing an intelligence higher than most humans. "Yes, Zoisite," replied Beryl, smiling slightly. "I can see why you were chosen. You are smart. But you must be a good fighter as well, to serve me and the Negaforce." "Negaforce?" Zoisite queried. "Our divine guidance, Zoisite. She gives us power and wisdom. You are chosen as a servant to her will. It is your mission. You, Malachite, Neflite and Jedite are my leaders. Please me and you will be well rewarded." "Yes," said Zoisite. "I will achieve my mission." Beryl reached out to touch Zoisite's cheek. "Just what I wanted to hear," she said. "Be a good girl and try your hardest for me. Concentrate on your goal to be a warrior and do everything you can to please your mentor Malachite and the Academy teachers. I want you to learn all that they have to teach you." "Yes, my queen," said Zoisite. "Now, go home and study. And do not bother Malachite unnecessarily, understand? As leader of the warriors, he has much to do for me." "I understand," said Zoisite. Concentrating on her crystal once more, she brought herself back to the castle of Lord Malachite. ************************* Zoisite found her kitten asleep on the floor, the stray ribbon lying nearby. She took a pillow from her bed and gently placed the kitty on top, so she would be more comfortable. "I'll get you a bed," she whispered, "but for now, use my pillow." Zoisite undressed and settled down with her book, turning to the section on Zoisite. She had read it before, but she wanted to refresh her knowledge. The wand could be a good focusing element for her, to help her concentrate her power. It had spiritual healing benefits as well. Malachite was resting, so she couldn't ask any questions until he felt better. Zoisite wanted to learn all about the power she possessed inside. She read for a while and then lay down when she felt sleepy. The kitten mewed, and Zoisite reached down and brought her up to the bed. She cuddled her new pet, feeling comforted to have the kitty with her.
